Thanks to insane, we now have a mailing list setup for general discussion of the bsd-airtools package. If you use the tools or just want to discuss technical issues with wireless networking and releated software/hardware drivers and api's, please join the list and help contribute to the research and development.

. prism2 monitor mode support for dstumbler to be released
|
|
The other night I demonstrated some of the new features of BSD-Airtools to the San Diego BSD User Group Meeting as well as some new modifications to dstumbler that allow you to detect wireless networks through analyzing beacon packets received while the card is in monitor mode. After the meeting insane came over and helped with some airtools testing. By the end of the night we had figured out how to do ad-hoc network detection with dstumbler with the card in prism2 monitor mode. Some new features that will also be released in the next version of dstumbler will include:
Full wireless network mapping (the ability to view info on the various nodes connected to the various aps).
Entirely passive scanning (no probe requests or packets of any kind sent out during scans).
Detection of mac-filtered aps.
Detection of multiple aps in one area.
More accurate detection and logging (By analyzing beacon packets you receive signal quality info about every 100 msec instead of polling every second).
Some other tools that might be released in the future will include a library or modifications to libpcap that allow you to passively sniff traffic on a specific wireless network without needing to associate or send out packets of any kind.

What's better than a pumpkin with the dachb0den logo? How about one with a NERV logo? How about X10 and motion activated? Well, take a look for yourself.

. bsd-airtools v0.1c released
|
|
Here's a halloween present for all of you wireless hackers out there. The latest significant release of BSD-Airtools is v0.1c and it's better then ever, with a multitude of new features. A few new major additions to BSD-Airtools in this new release include:
Added support for all 14 prism2 debug modes
A new tool called prism2ctl to enable/disable any/all of the debug modes on the card
A new tool called prism2dump to do analysis of the hardware-based link-layers returned by prism2 cards while they're in monitor mode.
I've also added some screenshots of the various tools in action. The next item on the list with BSD-Airtools is to start work on adding functionality to dstumbler, or creating an entirely new tool altogether that uses prism2 and/or aironet monitor mode to analyze beacon packets and send out probe requests to detect wireless lans.
Please also note that bsd-airtools v0.1c hasn't been field tested much on all of the platforms, so please send me any bugs/quirks you may find.

BSD-Airtools is a package that provides a complete toolset for wireless 802.11b auditing. Namely, it currently contains a bsd port of airsnort for wep cracking (as well as kernel patches for NetBSD, OpenBSD, and FreeBSD). It also contains a curses based ap detection application similar to netstumbler (dstumbler) that can be used to detect wireless access points, view signal to noise graphs, and interactively scroll through your scanned ap's and view statistics for each.
